Electives are a right of passage for every medical student and something all doctors look back on with fond memories. It’s a great opportunity to explore selected specialities further and really tailor your experience to your interests.
For inspiration, check out the amazing elective experiences you’ve kindly shared with us.
Some things to think about
- If you have no idea where to start (the world really is your oyster…), perhaps try narrowing things down by either location, elective type e.g. global health or specialities available
- See what opportunities are available – will it be hands-on (and to what extent?) or will it be more supervised?
- Consider applying for funding
- Practical stuff: accommodation, flights, visas, insurance, immunisations
